Blu-Ray Going Blockbuster Big
June 19th, 2007 posted by BizmanCurrently only about 250 out of 8,000 stores worldwide offer the Blu-Ray option. As sales grow, Blockbuster will expand that number.
So what’s the advantage? Standard HD-DVD versus Blu-Ray?
Sony’s Blu-Ray creation offers crisper images, sharper colors and by far a better picture. Remember when Beta and VHS were battling it out? While Beta was the better in clarity, VHS won due to marketing. Sony’s not taking any chances with their Blu-Ray. The Playstation 3 comes Blu-Ray playing compatible.
Sony’s digital technology also offers more room for special features than current DVDs.
Their competition, the HD-DVD, is backed by Toshiba Corp. and has less storage capacity, but is supposedly cheaper to produce.
By quantity of sales alone, Blu-ray is already claiming their fair share and then some of the market in comparison to HD DVD.
Hollywood and the electronics industry, including Sony and Toshiba, will continue to watch the sales figures. With all the advent of the digital age and better pictures, all are hoping new high-definition DVDs (HD and Blu-Ray), with better picture quality and more capacity, will boost a sagging $24-billion home DVD market.
