Canadians Hosting BMX World Cup

BMX World Cup

The website for the BMX 2007 World Cup is up and running. For those of you non-BMXers, this year’s championship will be held in Victoria, B.C. on a brand new track (as is the tradition).

The track was scheduled for completion in March but the website hasn’t been updated with completed track photos. And guess what? USA’s Tom Ritzenthaler is at it again. This year’s World Cup is another one of Tom’s designs. (Have you peeked at his Olympic layout yet?)

Ritzenthanler has treated us with another one of his split straight tracks. The killer side has two different must-jump doubles or you’ll end up on your back. The easier side isn’t much fun for the inexperienced. And the rhythm section will have any tense riders chattering their teeth out.

Over 40 nations are scheduled to attend with a grand estimated total of 2500 BMXers and more.

For those of who are hoping to attend but not racing the best of the best in the elite class, you can find out if you qualify for the challenge class.

Currently the USA is leading for the men’s division, with the Argentinians not far behind. Since we get to host this year’s cup - a wonderful prelude to the Olympics - let’s make a good showing for Canada. And let’s face it, those top challenge class racers may well make the 2012 Olympic team.
