Boys Dies After Emergency Room Delay

April 20th, 2007 posted by Mamasaid

According to the parents of an 18 year old boy, hold ups at the Calgary Rockyview hospital and misdiagnoses at a walk in clinic caused the death of their son last month from a ruptured appendix.

Wendy Baseotto said her son Jordan Johanson went to a walk in clinic that prescribed antibiotics because the boy had started to feel sick two days earlier. They antibiotics didn’t seem to help, so the next night Wendy took Jordan to the Rockyview emergency unit on a Saturday at 7:30 pm. According to Wendy, the staff expected her son had appendicitis yet still the operation didn’t take place until 7:15 the following morning – nearly 12 hours later.

“Why didn’t they take him into intensive care?” she asks.

The boy never improved after surgery and died only 16 hours later. The boy’s parents feel that the misdiagnoses and the delay proved to be fatal to their son. Jordan, a hockey enthusiast, came to Calgary to start a job as a metalworker with his stepfather. Officials state that a full, complete review will be done quickly and the incident is being taken seriously.

How do you feel about the medical treatment in Calgary emergency facilities? Do you feel the delay caused Jordan’s death? Was the situation preventable?

Bruno Baseotto, the dead man’s stepfather was a fine Hockey player fron Calgary. He played pro and semi-pro all over the world.

Yes, the delay in diagnosis and treatment was the result of Jordan’s death. If this boy was a son of a politican; he would not have been treated like this. There is no excuse in city that is so wealthy for this to happen. How many others have died because of a result of “a POOR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM?” A LOT!
