Ride For Sight

Perhaps you heard the rumble of what, at first few resonating low grumbles, sounded a bit like thunder this past Saturday. With all the rain, the threat of another storm wouldn’t have been as welcomed as the rumble of the motorcycle engines.

From the deep throated growls of the Buells to the higher pitched yowls of the Suzuki’s and Kawasaki’s, at this event, it didn’t matter if your choice ride was a Honda or Harley. The important thing was to show up with your cycle and wallet – all for a good cause.

It was that time of year again. Time to gather to help fight blindness. For the past 25 years, motorcyclists and their favorite rides have gathered at Deerfoot Mall for charity.

The annual Alberta Ride For Sight raises proceeds for The Foundation Fighting Blindness, a national charity. This year’s funds are earmarked for eye research at Alberta’s universities.

According to Bonnie Lackey, chair for the Ride For Sight, this year’s monetary goal was a whopping $150,000. She reports that the group is on track to surpass even that lofty amount. The Alberta Ride For Sight is one of the longest running motorcycle charity rides and one of the largest.
