The Calgary Flames have been beaten – but Flames Fans NEVER…

Well, today was the last 84 minutes of the season where we could watch the Calgary Flames on ice. The Detroit Red Wings eliminated the Calgary Flames from the NHL playoffs in front of 19,289 fans at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

At 4:23 of the second overtime Johan Franzen picked up a pass off the boards from Nicklas Lidstrom and took high slot shot beating Miikka Kiprusoff over the shoulder. 2-1 victory and Detroit Red Wings won the Western Conference quarter-final series 4-2.

The Flames had a chance to win this game in the first overtime period, but David Moss couldn’t put the puck into the empty net.

I cannot say that I was enjoying the game. No, absolutely not. There was a lot of pressure in this game and every couple of minutes I was thinking, “this is it, we are done.” Really, the Red Wings played much better and they deserved to win.

Jarome Iginla scored the lone goal, his second of the series, and gave the Flames a 1-0 lead at 3:09 of the second period, but Robert Lang tied the game at 16:53 in that period.

Once again the Calgary Flames were out shot by the Detroit Red Wings 55-21.

Miikka Kiprusoff was brilliant in the series. He faced 255 shots in 6 games. According to the game recap Warrener said:

“We can’t expect Kipper to hold us in there all the time. We have to score some goals. The amount of shots he faced is like three series for a goalie. We didn’t do enough to help him.”

Even after elimination the Calgary Flames fans still love their team. We thank the Flames for this great season and hope that the next Stanley Cup will be brought back to Calgary. Take a look at some comments by Calgary Flames fans.

“Thanks for the memorable playoff run, even though it was short, it was lots of fun. We appreciate the effort made, by you guys. This season was one I’ll never forget. Kipper was awesone. Remember, that no matter what, you guys are still our heroes. You showed us what determination really is. Thank you again, and can’t wait for the 2007/2008 season. GO FLAMES GO!!!!!”

“Amazing season… It hurts me to say it, but goodbye till next season, Kipper is the Brick wall, the best Goalie in the whole league no doubt. Even though there was no win, one of the Strongest games I have seen… Go Flames Go!!!!!!!!!”

There are a lot more great comments and you may find them on Calgary Flames blog.

Well it is true this hockey season was not the best for the Calgary Flames. So let’s leave it behind and wait for the 2007/2008 season. GO FLAMES GO!!!!!

This franchise needs to learn that the team with the most GOALS wins hockey games, not the most saves or blocked shots.

  2. SkGold Says:

Not completely true. The prove is in the game 3 (Detroit out shot Calgary 30-28) and game 4 (Detroit out shot Calgary 35-21) but Flames won, however I would agree that more shots is better.

  3. Klaus Verbi Says:

I am glad hockey is over for the Flames. We can be assured now that public urination, alcohol abuse and destruction of property will be limited.

  4. brian birchall Says:

It is shameful in this society that Hockey players earn more than Oncologists or Neurosurgeons. For the cost of Flames Season Tickets, you could sustain an entire village in Africa for 5 years.

The game also encourages violence and the owners encourage alcohol abuse, drunk driving and property destruction.
