Huge Come Back for the Flames in Playoff Series
April 17th, 2007 posted by SkGoldYeeeee HAW! Calgary Flames beat the Detroit Red Wings 3:2 today in Pengrowth Saddledome. This is a huge come back for the Calgary Flames in this quarterfinal playoff series with the Detroit Red Wings. The series is now 2-1 for Detroit.
The Flames played much better than in the previous games one and two in Detroit. It was a much more physical game, and they were much more disciplined. Finally, we can see that Jarome Iginla can play. He did a screen on the second Calgary Flames goal by Mark Giordano and scored the beautiful winning goal.
According to the article on www.cbc.ca Mark Giordano said:
“I got the puck there and Iggy made a helluva play with the screen there, then he goes out and gets the winner. That just tells you what type of captain we’ve got here.”
Today the Flames allowed only 30 shots on goal compared to the 51 in game two. Huge difference, isn’t it? Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 28 of them and as usual made a couple unbelievable acrobatic saves.
This game was a really physical game. Two of Calgary’s defenseman, Rhett Warrener and Dion Phaneuf, had to leave the game for a while, but it was good for the Flames when both returned. Rhett Warrener was hit in the face with a puck in the middle of the first period and returned to the game only in the second. Then just 39 seconds into the third period Dion Phaneuf has been hit by Daniel Cleary so hard so he was unable to come back to the game for the next 10 minutes.
Well the Calgary Flames won, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I hope the Flames will play even better and crash the Red Wings on Thursday April 19. The game will again be in the Calgary Pengrowth Saddledome at 7:30 p.m.
It is pretty late right now, so I will make and post the video tomorrow.
