Calgary is home to the world’s fastest long distance pedal-boater.

Greg Kolodziejzyk broke the record by pedaling his boat a total of 173.76 kilometers around Glenmore Reservoir for 24 hours this past weekend.

“I’m just tired like crazy,” Kolodziejz said. He celebrated his record with a bottle of champagne.

He broke the old record set by John Howard in 2000 by 5 kilometers and pulled up to the dock 15 minutes early.

But this isn’t Kolodziejzyk first record. He also holds the 24 hour land speed record on bicycle which he set in California.

But Kolodziejzyk is looking for more. He wants a triple crown in record holding. His next ambition is to tackle crossing the Atlantic ocean by pedal boat. But unlike his current specially lightweight engineered craft, the Atlantic crossing pedal boat will sport a roof.

He expects to take about 40 days to make the crossing. “If I found this tough, that’s going to be really tough,” he said.

The money he raises all goes to his charitable foundation Kolodziejzyk’s KidPower. He also spends part of his time visiting various Calgary schools weekly. He’s not there to brag about his accomplishments, but also discusses the value and importance of physical fitness and keeping active.
