Downtown 6-th Avenue Could Be Closed
March 21st, 2007 posted by SkGoldSeveral Calgary’s news medias are talking about a decision made by the city transportation and utilities committee to close a portion of 6th Avenue in downtown Calgary.
The votes were 4 to 3 in favour of closure of the entire block between Centre Street and 1st Street S.E. It is not a final decision yet. The issue was sent to council for approval. However there is a big possibility that it is going to be approved. We will know for sure on Monday.
The closure is required for the construction of a 6 storey underground parking lot and a 58 storey office tower for the EnCana corporation.
6th Avenue could be closed right after the Calgary Stampede parade for approximately 11 months and is planned to be reopened before the Stampede in 2008.
