Environmental Plan - At What Price Green?
April 27th, 2007 posted by CrepehangerGreen, Green, Green. The federal government has announced their plan to reduce greenhouse gases 18% by 2010. As has become the standard in these polarized times, conservatives complain the plan is too expensive while liberals complain there are too many loopholes.
Especially concerned with the new plan are the business owners in Calgary, particularly those in the oil community. With Alberta’s green scheme and Canada’s reduction production there are worries that Calgary’s business sector will be doubly hit. Concerns that the plans may not be compatible have yet to be addressed.John Baird, the Environment Minister, was quick to point out how much money and how many jobs the Kyoto Protocol would cost Canadians, but he is hedging on the costs of his plan. Baird expects his plan to result in as much as $8 billion loss with an unknown number of job losses. Baird knows the targets are tough, but he is convinced they are obtainable. Science has yet to weigh in on the plan.
The cost of the Baird plan does not include the cost to the individual of becoming eco-friendly. Expect utilities to cost more, but also plan to pay more for appliances, automobiles, and food. With the housing crunch and transit issues how much more can the average Calgarian take? Everyone wants a cleaner environment, but at what cost?

complaining the plan is to expensive?? come on, how much does the government take from us example our income tax- they take alot from me, where does that money go? do we get it back if we never collect unemployment? No, also the money they spend on military, mm what about our paraliments salary? Im afraid to ask that question, depressing the money us tax payers pay, I do think the green plan is more important, come on government save our country. well atleast try.
