The Calgary patient, a woman put Calgary health authorities on their toes. A woman infected with measles, arrived to Calgary on an April 8 British Airways flight from London. The flight was full and so the danger is large. All the passengers, as many as 224, might have been infected by the germs.

As people came to contact with the infected woman, the chance of its spreading increased. Doctors are on lookout for the disease. Identification of the woman is important so the health authorities can stop the spread. Already more than 200 people have been checked for the disease.

Measles is very serious. Keep safe. It can cause meningitis and lung infection. In severe cases it may cause death. Try to recognize the symptoms. If you have high fever, cough, red eyes, runny nose or rashes on your body, consult your doctor. It may take 7 to 18 days for symptoms to appear.

Dr. Karen Grimsrud, Alberta’s acting chief medical officer of health emphasized a fast action to stop the disease outbreak.

“There is the potential to start an outbreak of measles if we don’t jump on this as fast as we can,”

Calgary Health Region made a public appeal to call health link at 943-5465 in case of any doubt. Young children, pregnant woman, and immigrants are at more risk.

Take precaution!!! Do you think the authority is taking enough measures for the safety of the Calgary residents?
