As many of you know the Calgary Stampede plays host to many exciting fun filled events for the whole family on a year round basis. However, some individuals think that the grounds of the stampede need a new facelift. This means that there will be jobs created and alot of work to be performed on the Calgary stomping ground. Backed by the federal government and local authorities, the Calgary Stampede will be receiving a whopping settlement for these upgrades. $53 million to be exact.

When it comes to expansion, it just doesn’t happen overnight. With the months and years that it has taken to plan these events, timing played a beneficial part in the expansion. (more…)

The New Court Is Crowned - Calgary Stampede 2007

Congratulations to Amanda Byrne, Caia Morstad, and the 2007 Stampede Queen Amanda Kochan!  Kochan, a sophomore at Mount Royal College, is excited to use her role as Stampede Queen to promote the Western ideals she sees as integral to modern Calgary. With over 400 personal appearances planned for the 2007 court she will have plenty of opportunities to demonstrate exactly what she means.  Filling the cowboy boots of the 2006 Queen, Cheryl Dafoe, won’t be easy, but Kochan sounds like she is ready for the challenge.

Calgary Stampede Auction Reaches Record High of $4 Million

Calgary Stampede Statue It seems that the roof was almost blown off the Archie Boyce Pavilion when the 17 annual Calgary Stampede canvas auction was kicked off with a record bid and the sale topped the record with over 4 million bucks bid.

Last year the total bid record was 2.86 million bucks, which was erased by the major amount expended at this year’s auction.

The average bid at this year’s auction was a few cents over $111,208. The first seven drivers auctioned sold for a total of 1.1 million dollars and the 2 million dollar mark was exceeded after the fifteenth driver was purchased.
