Calgary Transit Union Wants to Talk

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 583 wants to talk to the city council. Members feel that council members haven’t been “fairly informed”.

Mike Mahar, of the transit union, has stated that they will be running more ads, giving the union’s side of the story in an attempt to make sure council is informed, as well as the general public.


Ald. Diane Colley-Urquhart claims both sides have been accused of not fully informing anyone. (more…)

Calgary vs. Transit Union: Impasse

The ongoing battle between the city of Calgary and the transit union, we are at an impasse. A brief pause in the war that is no truce but rather a final drawing of the battle lines.

According to Mayor Dave Bronconnier, the city has made its final offer.

The negotiations ended between the union and the city after a 12 hour talk Friday, May 11.

The Mayor accused the union of changing the issues.

Calgary Transit Union: To Strike or Not To Strike

Do you remember in 2001 when the bus drivers and mechanics went on strike for 50 long days?  How about a repeat?

At least the city and the union appear to making some headway after a 16 hour talk that ended at 1:30 a.m., early Thursday morning. 

The city has offered a few concessions: a 12 percent pay raise over the next 3 years.  The union had been seeking a 13 percent increase over 30 months. 

Perhaps more importantly, the city has offered more increases in pay to the shuttle bus drivers and the C-Train operators.
