No Budge in Budget

Calgary - McCall MLA Shiraz Shariff went to the press Saturday to suggest the budget squabbles between the Stelmach regime and the Bronconnier contingency stay out of the press. The irony of going to the press to ask his colleagues to not go to the press seems to be lost on him.

The real issue with the recent budget announcement isn’t Tory versus Liberal or even Province versus City, but what are the most important needs to improve the infrastructure or even more basically, (more…)

Environmental Plan - At What Price Green?

Green, Green, Green. The federal government has announced their plan to reduce greenhouse gases 18% by 2010. As has become the standard in these polarized times, conservatives complain the plan is too expensive while liberals complain there are too many loopholes.

Especially concerned with the new plan are the business owners in Calgary, particularly those in the oil community. With Alberta’s green scheme and Canada’s reduction production there are worries that Calgary’s business sector will be doubly hit. Concerns that the plans may not be compatible have yet to be addressed. (more…)

Boys Dies After Emergency Room Delay

According to the parents of an 18 year old boy, hold ups at the Calgary Rockyview hospital and misdiagnoses at a walk in clinic caused the death of their son last month from a ruptured appendix.

Wendy Baseotto said her son Jordan Johanson went to a walk in clinic that prescribed antibiotics because the boy had started to feel sick two days earlier. They antibiotics didn’t seem to help, so the next night Wendy took Jordan to the Rockyview emergency unit on a Saturday at 7:30 pm. (more…)
