Student Film: Censored and Banned

Censorship is the result of someone with the power to pull the plug not liking a particular subject. The Calgary Catholic School District has deemed a student’s film on suicide as “unsuitable” and pulled the carpet out from under the student filmmaker.

Suicide is a difficult topic; one that gets hushed up quick even when tackled by adults.

This time, 12th grade Brendan Prost and over 30 Bishop Grandin High School students worked to create the story behind an unknown suicide and then flashes back. Read the rest of this article »

Calgary vs. Transit Union: Impasse

The ongoing battle between the city of Calgary and the transit union, we are at an impasse. A brief pause in the war that is no truce but rather a final drawing of the battle lines.

According to Mayor Dave Bronconnier, the city has made its final offer.

The negotiations ended between the union and the city after a 12 hour talk Friday, May 11.

The Mayor accused the union of changing the issues.

What’s Up for Calgary Flames with the NHL Draft?

Hey fellow Flames Fans!  I’ve been keeping an eye on the flames’ website www.calgaryflames.com but I haven’t seen anything about the upcoming NHL entry draft regarding what the local team is looking for.

Has anybody heard anything about the picks Calgary’s after? June 22, 23 isn’t that far away now.  Some of the prospects look pretty good. How about Kyle Turris (BCHL) or Patrick Kane (OHL)?  They’re rated the top two North American skaters.  Read the rest of this article »
