Green, Green, Green. The federal government has announced their plan to reduce greenhouse gases 18% by 2010. As has become the standard in these polarized times, conservatives complain the plan is too expensive while liberals complain there are too many loopholes.

Especially concerned with the new plan are the business owners in Calgary, particularly those in the oil community. With Alberta’s green scheme and Canada’s reduction production there are worries that Calgary’s business sector will be doubly hit. Calgary, Alberta - Housing Budget Announced - Too Little or Too Much?

Everyone is aware, sometimes painfully so, of the housing shortage in Alberta, particularly here in Calgary. The answer?  Bring in more government legislation and throw more money at the problem.  What would we do without task force recommendations!   

Premier Stelmach’s plan to improve the housing situation has two important components — incentives for homeowners to take on boarders and limiting rent increases to once a year.  There is also a promise to create 11,000 affordable housing units in Alberta within the next five years.
