Pet food lawsuit launched in Alberta
April 10th, 2007 posted by SkGoldA Calgary law firm Docken and Company launched an Alberta class-action suit against Menu Foods. The lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Jim O’Keefe and several other pet owners from Alberta and British Columbia.
The suit seeks compensation for the pet owners, which pets suffered after eating the tainted pet food products that were recalled. It claims that Menu Foods has poor quality control and that they did not warn the pet owners in a timely manner.
Docken and Company is inviting Albertans whose pets became sick to join the class-action lawsuit against Menu Foods.
In February 2007 O’Keefe’s cat Jazzy started vomiting and has been diagnosed with kidney failure. Veterenarians have adviced to stimulate Jazzy’s appetite and and let her eat as much food as possible. Since the diagnose was made in February, before Menu Foods started the recall, Jazzy has been fed with tainted food for more than three weeks in a row and died last Tuesday.
According to Calgary Sun article O’Keefe said:
“We were feeding her only that wet food every day on a regular regime. We didn’t learn about (the recall) an until a full month later — we had the packets with the same code numbers on the back and the same brand.”
“It’s just really difficult to know I’d been feeding her this food for three weeks without knowing it was a problem…”
“Our goal was to get her eating again without realizing it was what was making her sick.”
I believe that Docken and Company is doing the right thing by launching a Lawsuit against Menu Foods. Pet’s owners deserve compensation.
